Funeral Mass for Mary Ann Miller, 72, of Jefferson will be 10:30 a.m. May 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Jefferson. The family will greet friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the family and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Mary Ann “Annie” Miller was born May 19, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to birth parents Peter Sefcik and Angeline Buren Sefcik. As a child, Annie loved to do toe ballet and tap dance. Mary Ann married Wally Miller in April 1963. To this union, four children were born: Michael, Lori, Peggy and Nancy.
A house fire in Farlin on February 21, 1973 took the lives of her husband and three daughters. Mary Ann lived in Waukegan, Illinois from 1975 until November 2009. Annie worked in the kitchen at St. Therese Hospital Waukegan, IL for over 25 years, and then she worked at the food court at Gurnee Mills Mall in Gurnee Mills, Illinois until she retired. Annie returned to Iowa in 2009, making her home in Jefferson. She was an avid walker, and liked to do needle point. She said her prayers every morning and every night.
Mary Ann died May 6, at the Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson. She was 72 years of age. Preceding her in death were her foster parents Ethel and Clifford Abbott; husband Wally; and daughters: Lori, Peggy and Nancy.
Annie is survived by her son, Michael and wife Monica of Council Bluffs, IA; granddaughter Peggy Sue (Michael) Hall of Bellevue, NE; grandson Brent (fiancé Kari) of Bellevue, NE; great-grandson Trenton Hall; step grandchildren: Mathew Ward of Norfolk, NE; Taggart (Kristen) Ward of Colorado; Dathan (fiancé Amanda) of O’Neil , NE; and Lana (Brian) Castilla of Bellevue, NE; step-great-grandchildren: Janessa and Braylan Castilla; and foster sister, Mary Ruth Abbott of Waukegan, IL.
