Duane Shriver, the son of Darrell and Jessie (Drayer) Shriver, was born April 26, 1943 at Jefferson, Iowa and departed this life July 10, 2014 at Kissimmee, Florida. He lived his life to the age of 71 years old.
Duane attended and graduated from the Paton High School in 1961 and later attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for two years. He then attended Palmer’s Chiropractic College in Davenport where he received his degree in March of 1969.
On July 13, 1969, Duane was married to Donna J. Becker in Moline, Illinois. Two children were born to this union. They moved to Florida where Duane worked for the General Elevator Company as a sheet metal worker and later for Sherikon Elevator as a supervisor. He retired in 1996. Duane and Donna were later divorced.
Duane enjoyed sports and played basketball and baseball all four years in high school and was Homecoming King in his senior year. In later years, his family was his joy.
Duane is survived by his children: Christen Shriver of Valley Center, California and Laura Shriver of Kissimmee, Florida, two grandchildren, Dylan and Noah, a sister Dorla (Claud) Neiderheiser of Paton, two brothers, Larry Shriver (Mona) of Louisiana and Loren (Diane) Shriver of Estes Park, Colorado, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Thomas and step-daughter, Donia Shriver.
A celebration of Duane’s life was held at 10:30 a.m., July 16, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton with Rev. David Arulnathan officiating. Burial was made in the Dawson Township Cemetery west of Paton. Musical selections, “Amazing Grace” was sung by soloist, Doyle Carlson and “Hymn of Promise” was sung by the congregation and accompanied by organist, Janice Tilley.
Serving as casket bearers were Jeff Shriver, Jered Shriver, Camden Shriver, Chris Thomas, Steve Schwarting and Ben Schwarting. Honorary casket bearers were Duane’s classmates.
