Toreadors sweep at double dual

Boone’s varsity and junior varsity boys swimming teams hosted Carroll High and Atlantic for a double dual on Thursday, Dec. 17. The Toreadors went 2-0 on the night at the varsity level, defeating Carroll 60-39 and Atlantic 49-45. Team scoring was not kept at the junior varsity level.

Greene County competitors Nick Schroeder, Ethan Woodruff, Lucas Ausberger, Mason Osborne, Levi Kiss and Evan Woodruff all swam in four total events throughout the evening.

In the varsity relay category, the 200 medley relay (Schroeder, Brayden Biersner, Eth. Woodruff, Kevin Kiesel) finished first with a time of 1:48.77, the 200 freestyle relay (Eth. Woodruff, Harrison Smith, Schroeder, Kiesel) finished first with a time of 1:34.69 and the 400 freestyle relay (Kiesel, Schroeder, Eth. Woodruff, Cole Harper) finished second with a time of 3:34.03.

In the varsity individual category, Schroeder finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.59 and Eth. Woodruff finished sixth with a time of 24.72.

“We were pretty geared up for these meets tonight,” head coach Chris Mann said. “The guys always show up to swim whenever Carroll is involved and we saw a lot of great times tonight. It was highly impressive because we’re in the middle of a very tough couple of weeks training-wise. The goal is to come out of the new year even faster than we are now.”

In the junior varsity relay category, the A 200 medley relay (Hunter Sherry, Ausberger, Osborne, Grant Hamilton) finished first with a time of 2:04.61, the B 200 medley relay (Kiss, Mitchel Gute, Reece Powell, Kyle Peter) finished second with a time of 2:10.25 and the C 200 medley relay (Matt Kordick, Jal Kouk, Jaden Wright, Ev. Woodruff) finished fourth with a time of 2:57.18. The A 200 freestyle relay (Osborne, Eli Doss, Ausberger, Kiss) finished second with a time of 1:55.03 and the B 200 freestyle relay (Ev. Woodruff, Kordick, Wright, Kouk) finished fourth with a time of 2:25.16. The A 400 freestyle relay (Osborne, Doss, Sherry, Peter) finished second with a time of 4:13.82, the B 400 freestyle relay (Ausberger, Isidro Gonzalez, Noah Lee, Kiss) finished third with a time of 4:41.55 and the C 400 freestyle relay (Alex Carey, Kordick, Gute, Ev. Woodruff) finished fourth with a time of 5:16.59.

In the junior varsity individual category, Osborne was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:41.49, Ausberger was second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.07 and Ev. Woodruff was seventh with a time of 37.95. Kiss finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:19.36.

“Our saying tonight was ‘Be successful one race at a time’ and the boys definitely did that,” Mann extolled. “Our B relays beat Carroll’s A relays in multiple events, which made for a very big point swing and that was great to see.”
