The Boone girls swim team faced some tough competition this week when they hosted a dual meet with Des Moines Roosevelt on Sept. 25 and participated in the Des Moines Lincoln Invitational on Sept. 27.

Boone lost to Roosevelt 123-63, but had some good events. Coach Mann had some of the girls swim different events than they usually swim. Boone took the top three places in the diving competition and also had two winning freestyle relays. “Our divers did well,” said coach Chris Mann. “This was the first meet without a failed dive, so they are progressively getting better. Our free relays were impressive tonight. The goal was to have fun. The more fun you have, the faster you swim. Our 400 free relay swam under four minutes which is where we need to be right now. We have a lot of girls that have stepped up this week.”

The Boone team competed in the Lincoln Invitational on Sept. 27 and finished third out of eight school competing. “We had a very strong meet start to finish,” said coach Mann. “The first half of the meet was very exciting. We dropped all kinds of time. We have been focusing on our distance events this week, and those girls dropped large chunks of time in those events. We beat Lincoln in one of our first meets, so I knew they were hungry for a rematch.”

Cedar Rapids Washington won the meet with 519 points, Lincoln was second with 399, and Boone was third with 371. Other team scores were Indianola 326, Carroll 280, Des Moines East 158, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 109, and Charles City 91.
