Rocket track teams open season on the oval

Paton-Churdan’s varsity boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Greene County Early Bird Track Meet Monday in Jefferson. No teams scores were kept for either the boys or girls, but each individual event placed from first to fifth.

For the boys, Paton-Churdan had three top five finishes throughout the evening. There were no first or second place finishers for the Rockets. The lone third place finish included Trevor Bundt in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.01. The lone fourth place finish was the Rocket 4x800 relay with a time of 10:04.74. Lastly, Isaac Ireland placed fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.41.

For the girls, Paton-Churdan had five top five finishes throughout the night. First place finishes for the Rockets included Megan Carey in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.84 and Carleigh Paup in the long jump with a leap of 15’9”. Second place finishers were Paup in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.42 and Carey in the long jump with a leap of 15’6”. There were no third place finishes for the Rockets. The lone fourth place finish was the Rocket sprint medley relay with a time of 2:04.81. There were no fifth place finishers for Paton-Churdan.

The Paton-Churdan boys will be back in action on Monday at the Titan Relays — hosted by South Central Calhoun — and the Rocket girls will also compete Monday, but at the Jaguar Relays — hosted by Southeast Valley.
