Ram runners stay busy on the track

On Thursday, April 21, the Greene County high school boys track team traveled to Carroll to compete in the Tiger-Knight Relays, hosted by Carroll High and Kuemper Catholic. The Rams finished sixth in the team race, collecting 44 total points on the night. The final team standings for the meet were as follows: 1. Carroll 112, 2. Boone 102, 3. Atlantic 96, 4. Harlan 95, 5. Denison-Schleswig 48, 6. Greene County 44, 7. Kuemper Catholic 42, 8. Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 18.
Individually for the Rams, top finishes for the evening included Max Neese in the 100 meter dash, 11.18 seconds (2nd), Neese in the 200 meter dash, 22.35 seconds (3rd), Nick Schroeder in the 400 meter dash, 53.34 seconds (2nd), and Daric Whipple in the 400 meter hurdles, 56.70 seconds (2nd). Top relay events for Greene County were the 4x400 relay, 3:35.10 (3rd) and the shuttle hurdle relay, 1:06.02 (4th).

Individual members of those relay teams were not given.

The Ram boys also competed at a coed meet on Tuesday, April 26, hosted by the Woodward-Granger Hawks. Greene County won the meet as a team, scoring 132 total points on the night. The final team standings for the meet were as follows: 1. Greene County 132, 2. Iowa Christian Academy 102, 3. Woodward-Granger 99, 4. Glidden-Ralston 95, 5. West Central Valley 85, 6. Paton-Churdan 34.

Top individual finishes for the Rams included Neese in the 100 meter dash, 11.20 seconds (1st), Neese in the 200 meter dash, 22.80 seconds (1st), Schroeder in the 200 meter dash, 23.70 seconds (2nd), Ethan Woodruff in the 400 meter dash, 57.40 seconds (2nd), Levi Kiss in the 3200 meter run, 11:55.00 (3rd), Whipple in the 400 meter hurdles, 57.80 seconds (1st), Matthew Gordon in the discus, 117 feet 7 inches (4th), Woodruff in the high jump, 5 feet 4 inches (4th), Schroeder in the long jump, 18 feet 9 inches (2nd), Tyler Beger in the long jump, 18 feet 1 1/2 inches (3rd), and Gordon in the shot put, 43 feet 5 inches (3rd).

In the relay events, Greene County’s best showings were in the 4x100 relay, 44.90 seconds (1st), the 4x200 relay, 1:34.60 (1st), the 4x400 relay, 3:57.00 (2nd), the 4x800 relay, 9:59.21 (3rd), and the shuttle hurdle relay, 1:08.10 (1st). Individual members of those relay teams were not given.

Greene County’s varsity boys track team will be back in action on Tuesday, May 3 when the Rams compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference Track Meet. The event will be held in Gilbert and start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
