Paton-Churdan boys win one of two games

Jake Carey and Colton Fitzpatrick both scored in double figures and led the Rockets to a 54-49 road win over Exira/ EHK on Jan.17. P-C out scored the Spartans in each of the first three quarters, but the home team did not go away, and put up 20 in the final period to make the game close at the end. Noah Juergensen was a big factor on the boards snagging 12 rebounds. The Rockets made 45 percent of their shots from the floor and were 17 of 27 from the free throw line. “We did just what we needed get by,” said Coach Chris Stimson.

Paton-Churdan hosted league leading Ar-We-Va on Jan. 21. Ar-We-Va came into the game with a 13-0 record and ended up winning the game 56-46. Jake Carey provided most of the offensive punch for P-C scoring 21 points. He also was very active defensively stealing five of the opponents passes, and hounding Ar-We-Va’s guards all night long. Noah Juergensen led the team in rebounding with six, while Carey pulled down four. Coach Stimson was disappointed in the team’s ability to make good passes to their inside players. “When we can’t get the ball to our post players, we lose a lot of high percentage scoring opportunities,” said Stimson. “Jake did a good job offensively, but we need more points from other players.” The Rockets are now 7-5 in conference games and 8-5 overall. They hope to get another conference win when they travel to Anita on Friday for a game versus CAM.
