Greene County teams set to compete in weekend tourneys

The Greene County streaking baseball and softball teams will each take part in tournaments over the weekend.
The Ram baseball squad (6-12) travels to Carroll Saturday morning for the Kuemper Invitational. They will take on Kuemper at 10 a.m. in the first game. The Knights are 12-10 and are coming off a 2-1 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes in eight innings Thursday night.
Also participating in the two-day tournament with Kuemper and Greene County are Carroll (0-16), Council Bluffs-St. Albert (10-12) and Spencer (7-6). The Rams beat Carroll 20-5 two weeks ago,
Senior Reid Lamoureux’s batting average has dipped as of late, but still is a top Class 3A at .588 and 30 hits.
The Rams host Gilbert Friday prior to the tournament with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
The Ram softball team (11-11) will square off against South Hamilton (12-8), Interstate 35 (15-3) Iowa Falls-Alden (9-11), South Hardin (4-17) and Southeast Valley (15-6) in Jewell.
The Rams fell 12-1 to South Hamilton in six innings this past Monday.
Freshman Megan Carey leads the team in hitting with a .462 average.
The tournament will start at 9 a.m.
