WHAT TO WATCH: Can the Rams halt Webster City’s rush attack that puts up 405 yards per game on the ground?

SERIES HISTORY: Webster City won, 36-34 in 2015

KICK TIME: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at Webster City High School football field

Fans of the run game are in for an old-school, smash mouth treat tonight (Friday, Sept. 16) as the Greene County football team faces district two foe, Webster City in a rematch of a high-scoring 2015 game.

The Lynx prevailed, 36-34 last season on the legs of departed running back, Gavin Dinsdale who tallied 116 yards and touchdowns but on 30 carries. Payton Kannuan is back, who toted the rock nine times for 88 yard and a touchdown.

Gone are the Fuhs brothers, quarterback Avery Fuhs and wide receiver Alec Fuhs, who connected three times for 104 yards and two touchdowns in their narrow victory.

The Lynx (2-1, 0-1) lay claim to wins over Humboldt (53-14) and Clear Lake (44-14) and a 31-25 loss to fellow district 2 opponent, Gilbert.

Webster City boasts a run-heavy, two-headed attack of Robert Frederickson (481 yards, five touchdowns) and Kannuan (322 yards, three touchdowns). Three other backs have carried the ball 11 or more times this season.

As a team, the Lynx have produced 1,217 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground through their first three games.

On the flip side, Greene County has allowed 790 rush yards through three games for a 263 yards per game average.

“The key for us is to play physical,” said Greene County head coach Dean Lansman. “We seem to play them well. We need to get support on the back side and not allow them to get a big play. They pound, pound, pound and then look for a big play.”

Offensively, the Rams will hope to gain traction in the run game which potentially will lead to a successful pass attack for a young quarterback that has struggled so far (Clint Dennhardt).

“We are going to attack the edge a bit more and open it up and let Clint make some reads,” Lansman said. “Let him use his eyes as an extra blocker and not let them focus on Trey Tucker or Jake Berns in the backfield.”

The Rams are still in search of their first win of the year and will kick-off their week four matchup at 7:30 p.m. at the Webster City High School Field.
