The Greene County varsity boys golf team participated in its Class 3A sectional meet in Atlantic on Friday, May 13. Finishing eighth out of eight total teams in attendance, the Rams missed moving on further into the postseason as a entire club. The final team standings for the competition were as follows: 1. Atlantic 302, 2. Glenwood 319, 3. Harlan 334, 4. Carroll 335, 5. A-D-M 350, 6. Creston 353, 7. Perry 356, 8. Greene County 389.
Individually, the Rams came close to having one golfer advance to the district meet, but in the end they were shut out from moving on once again. Elijah Block, a sophomore and Greene County’s No. 1 shooter for the entire spring season, finished with an 18-hole score of 79 (39, 40). He narrowly missed advancing by just one stroke, as two of the top four golfers on Friday carded a score of 78 to move on. Rounding out the scorecard for Greene County was Isaiah Yoder with a 103 (52, 51), Chase Juergensen with a 103 (50, 53), Ben Wilkins with a 104 (54, 50), Britton Gallagher with a 115 (56, 59), and Logan Nelson with a 118 (55, 63).
Individually advancing to the district meet from this Class 3A competition were Atlantic’s Jake Olsen, 73 (1st), Ben Renaud, 73 (2nd), Kyle Nelson, 78 (T4th), and Matt Gearheart, 78 (T4th), and Glenwood’s Kobe Rhodes, 76 (3rd).
Of the six Greene County golfers who competed at sectionals last week, all will return next season to play for the Rams.
