Boom.
The hits keep on coming for a record-breaking season deserving of historic recognition.
The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association released the Class 2A all-state football teams Tuesday morning (11/26), and Greene County made quite the statement with five honorees.
The Rams waltzed their way through the GCHS record books this fall, setting a number of new marks by achieving an all-time high single-season win total (9), surging out to the best start in program history (8-0), compiling the longest regular-season win streak in history (11 dating back to 2018) in addition to capturing the school's first-ever playoff win over Des Moines Christian.
Those incredible feats, and many others (several individual Rams set single-season and career marks), were anchored by one of the most talented senior classes in county history. Joyously, the state – various sportswriters and coaches – took notice, awarding the high-flying Rams with its best all-state haul in GCHS history, highlighted by Carter Morton's first team honor.
The faboulous five are as follows:
All-State First Team
Carter Morton - Kick Returner
All-State Second Team:
Colby Kafer - Offensive Back
Tyler Miller - Offensive Line
All-State Third Team:
Brent Riley - Quarterback
Cael Fisher - Kicker
Pick up next week's for a more thorough breakdown of the all-state selections.
