Winona Roberts

Winona Roberts, 78, of Perry, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry, Iowa. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 26 at 10 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation was on Tuesday, September 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Burial was in the Mowrer Cemetery at Perry. 

Winona Jean Roberts was born on June 26, 1940 in Audubon, Iowa to Howard Raymond and Gladys Marie (Jorgensen) Hicks. She attended elementary school in Jefferson until the fifth grade when her family moved to Perry. Winona was united in marriage to Wilford Roberts in Adel, Iowa on April 10, 1972. She worked at Fox’s Lunch in Perry, the Bouton Upholstery Shop, Mimi’s Crafts and was the bookkeeper for Roberts Automotive.

Winona loved crafts of all types and enjoyed teaching others. In 1987, her interest turned to quilting and became a founding member of the Perry Piece Makers. She created many special quilts for family and friends. Winona was honored when Governor Branstad requested her to make Christmas tree ornaments for two years for his tree. She took joy in entering projects at the Iowa State Fair and won numerous blue ribbons.

In death Winona rejoins her husband, Wilford; parents, Howard and Gladys and a sister, Brenda Brown.

Left to cherish Winona’s memory are her children: Steve (Judy) Grimsley, Ron (Jody) Grimsley, Kathy (Chuck) Foor, Bill (Rosie) Grimsley, Ron (Paula) Roberts and Rhonda (Bill) Olson; grandchildren: Matthias Roberts, Mikayla (David) Carlson, Anna (Jordan) Scott, Aaron (Bobbi) Baxter, Kyle (Mindy) Baxter, Barb (Mark) Thacker, Amanda (Mark) Going, Alyssa (Eric) Meendering, Jenna (Johnnathan) Erlewine, Jennifer (Mark) Dutcher, Jessica (Julio) Castillo, Jill Grimsley and Toree Grimsley; many loving great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings: Lester (Ellen) Hicks, Jim (Joan) Hicks, Bruce (Gale) Hicks, Barry (Patty Nance) Hicks, Shirley (Harold) Anderson, Iola Bainter and Carolyn Wachter.
