Wayne Allender

Wayne Eugene Allender born in Henry County, Iowa and late of Thomas Rest Haven in coon Rapids passed away in the early morning hours of Dec. 27. Wayne was born November 18, 1925 to William Henry Allender and Marie Josephine Tarman Allender near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He assisted his father in farming and as the war came, worked at the munitions assembly near Burlington; he enlisted in the army in 1945, was stationed in Italy, and was honorably discharged in 1947 having earned the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Wayne completed Signal Corp Lineman School and found an interest in flying while in the army.

He married Marilyn Elaine Compton in June 1951 in Scranton. Three children were born in Mt. Pleasant. At his father’s death Wayne took over the reins of the farm helping to support by becoming an orderly at the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute. The family moved to Bagley and the Greenbrier Township in 1962. Wayne worked at AMF in Jefferson and continued diversified corps and livestock farming and another child was born in 1970.

By his family and friends Wayne will be remembered for his grin and fairness. He was often the instigator of jokes and laughter at the dinner table! He was respectful and polite to friends loyal and steadfast.

He had a passion for the West-wildlife mountains and people and for planting trees.

He was a lifelong learner, trying to teach himself classical guitar and expanding his hobby of gun shows and target shooting with Skeeter Wilbur, and voraciously reading. He encouraged his children to travel and learn and tried to instill in them morals and a firm work ethic. And he listened, truly listened.
For all these reasons Wayne E. Allender will be remembered.

Survivors are: Wife of 63 years Marilyn; Children: Joyce Allender of Jefferson, Kevin (Patti Anderson) Allender of Bagley, Julie (Craig) Kadlec of Robins, Kyle (Julie) Allender of Jefferson.
