Wanda Zmolek

Wanda Jean Zmolek, 79, of Jefferson, Iowa died Tuesday, March 13, 2018.

Wanda was born September 3, 1938 in rural Tama county to Marvin and Lorena Konicek. From an early age she was responsible for preparing the evening meal while her parents milked the cows. This was hard work for a young girl but later in her life we all benefited from her wonderful cooking that had its start here. She graduated from Keystone High School with a class of 27 in 1956. It was here that she met the love of her life, Del, at the age of 15. A first date began a relationship that would celebrate 60 anniversaries with a love that continues to inspire their children. Together Wanda and Del created a home where their children felt loved.

We will remember Wanda for her limitless love and support, the phone calls and letters that always came at the perfect time, her chicken dumpling soup, and Grammy tirelessly reading Brown Bear to her grandchildren when nothing else would do.  

Wanda will be greatly missed by her devoted husband, Delbert; her children: Patrick (Jennifer) Zmolek, Tracy (Terry) Kach and Gwen (Steve) Beck; and brother, Eddie (Trish) Konicek. Grammy will be remembered by Shawon (Bryanna), Branden, Meaghan, Morrgan and Emma.

A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at a future date.
