Velma Henning

Velma J. Henning, age 80, of rural Scranton passed away on April 2015 at her home.

Born on February 10, 1935 in Scranton, she was the daughter of Lowell and Nellie LaVerne (Cochran) Eason.  She grew up in Churdan and lived with her grandparents Effie and Roy Cochran.  Velma attended country school at Cedar #9 and Churdan High School. She was married to Ivan Henning on June 7, 1953 at the Friends Church in Scranton by Rev. Gary Harvey. The couple made their home and farmed on the Clara and Roy Parker farm south of Scranton.  They later moved to the Henning family farm where they raised their family and farmed all their married life. Velma was very active in the farming operation and also raised chickens and sold eggs. She was in 4-H as a girl and later became a 4-H leader.  She was a member of the You Go I Go Club, the CC Club and the Carroll Lions Club. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Scranton for many years where she held many offices and was very active in the Sunday school program. She was currently a member of the Church of Christ in Carroll.  Velma dearly loved her family and cooking.

Velma is survived by her four daughters: Viola Kunce and her husband Jerral of Lake City, twins- Diane Bebb and her husband David of New London, and Dione Cornelius and her husband Tom of Bagley, and Lois Henning-Flath and her husband Craig of Carroll; seven grandchildren: Jason Kunce of Lake City, Amanda Kolf and her husband Mitch of Wichita, KS, Andrea Kunce of Waukee and her fiancé Alec Packer of Cedar Falls, Daniel Bebb and his wife Jennifer of West Jefferson, OH, Duane Bebb and his wife Rachael of Mt. Pleasant and Donald Bebb and his wife Breanne of New Liberty, Becky Cornelius of Bagley; three great grandchildren: Justin, Isabella, and Isaac and soon to be one more!!; two twin sisters: Doneta Linquist and her husband Lawrence of Sac City and Donna Gerdes; her half-sisters: Romona Johnson of Florida, Sally Van Horn of Arizona, Mardell Shipley of Scranton, and Karen Brown of Jefferson; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.  Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan in 2011, and a half-sister Roberta.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 20, at Pleasant Ridge E Free Church south of Glidden with Rev. Chaun Bergmeier. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5:00 to 7 p.m. on April 19.  The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m.. on April 20 where visitation will resume until the time of service.  Music for the service will be by Joan Bundt and Kenny Morlan.  Casket bearers will Daniel Bebb, Duane Bebb, Donald Bebb, Jason Kunce, LeRoy Cochran, and Brian Hunter.  Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton and online condolences may be left at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com
