Tim Healy

John Timothy “Tim” Healy passed away at home at the age of 65 on May 23, 2018. Tim was a kind, gentle, mischievous, and simple man who was a lover of nature. He was always on an even keel and never one to get riled. Tim considered everyone his friend and would always stop and visit with others he crossed paths with on his route rides around Greene County.

Tim was born into the family of Jack and Jessie (Shriver) Healy on April 10, 1953. He was welcomed by older siblings Mike, Denny, Nancy, Joe and Sandra. Tim graduated from Jefferson High School in 1971 and from DMACC where he studied heating and cooling.

Tim started his working career at Culver Engineering. In 1979 he started working for the county in the secondary roads department as county surveyor. In 1988 he became the zoning administrator. He also served as Environmental Health Director as well as GIS mapping coordinator. In September 2015 Tim retired from the county after 37 ½ enjoyable years.

Tim was united in marriage to Jan Burk in March 1980. To this union were born two sons, Denny and Mike. As the boys grew up, and through adulthood, they enjoyed going on “tours” of Greene county where they learned about pieces of history. They enjoyed all things outdoors with their dad. Tim remained very close to his sons. Never would he allow more than a couple of days to go by without talking to them, always ending conversations with “I love you.”

In 1999 Tim struck up a conversation with an old family friend, Jane Perkins. They married and spent the next 18 years living on their acreage, in which Tim took great pride. Their chocolate labs were never far from their side as they enjoyed working in the yard or garden. They were passionate about their farm pond, spending countless hours making improvements to it. Tim’s ashes will be spread at the Healy pond in a private family ceremony.

Tim’s granddaughter, Haddie Louise, was the light of his life. Tim and Haddie had a unique way of communicating from the beginning, each patting their hand to their head. There was nothing that Tim would not do for his special little girl.

A Celebration of Life service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at Clover Hall in Jefferson with Rev. Cathy VanGundy of Panora officiating. Honorary bearers were Jim Wyckoff, Dave Perkins, Mike Piepel, Bob Bills, John Evers, Rick Pierce, Dennis Louk, Phil Siglin and Terry Semke. Soloist, James Healy sang “Somewhere” from West Side Story and “Live Until I Die” by Clay Walker and “Drink A Beer” by Luke Bryan were the musical selections played. The family greeted friends following the service until 5 p.m.

Tim is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Denny and Mike (Angie) and granddaughter, Haddie all of Jefferson. He is also survived by siblings: Mike(Jackie) of Dixon, Ill., Nancy(Denny) Hebner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Joe (Cheri) of Jefferson, Sandra Zeller-Healy of Nevada, Iowa and sister-in-law, Sue Healy Seifert of Scottsdale, Ariz.; as well as aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and more friends than can be counted. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Jack; mother, Jessie; brother, Denny and nephew, Jamie.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
