Ruby Springer

Ruby E. Springer, the daughter of Joseph and Grace (Umbaugh) Pevestorf, was born March 9, 1923 in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa and left this life Dec. 13 at the Regency Park Care Center in Jefferson. She lived a full life to the age of 91 years old.        

Ruby graduated from the Scranton High School in 1941. On March 19, 1944, Ruby Pevestorf was united in marriage to Clarence “Hap” Springer at the Methodist Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. The couple lived in Gowrie for a year and then nine years in Scranton where they farmed. They later moved to Jefferson where they farmed and Hap sold hybrid seed. Hap and Ruby owned and operated the Springer Ag Center and Ruby was the bookkeeper. She also worked in numerous retail businesses and worked 25+ years at Anthony’s in Jefferson. Ruby & Hap enjoyed spending time at their lake house on Black Hawk Lake and also dancing, playing cards and attending sporting events of their children and grandchildren. Hap passed away in 2001 and Ruby continued to live on the farm home east of Jefferson. She became of resident of the Regency Park Care Center in 2012.

Ruby was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. She was a charter member of the Jefferson B.P.O. DOES Drove #196.

She is survived by her children; Teddy Joe and his wife, Mary Jo, Kay Moranville, Karen Pope and her husband, Paul, Jim and his wife, Cathy, and Jay, all of Jefferson, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a brother Dean (Phyllis) Pevestorf of Boone. Those who preceded her in death were her parents, husband, a grandson, Steven Wray Moranville, great-granddaughter, Murphy Taute, a brother, Loren Pevestorf and a sister, Charlotte Hobart.

A celebration of Ruby’s life was held at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson with Pastor Julie Poulsen and Rev. Ben Ramirez officating. Burial was made in the Grand Junction Cemetery. Musical selections at the service were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace” sung by Kenny and Deb Monthei and accompanied by pianist, Laura Pevestorf Ramirez.

Serving as casket bearers were Justin Springer, Mark Paup, Todd Springer, Steven Springer, Scott Glienke and Johnny Hamilton. Serving as honorary casket bearers were Jeremy Springer and Antonia Silvia, Tiffany and Jason Steenblock, Connie Hamilton, Alisa Glienke, Miranda Paup, Dawn and Chad Taute, Greta Springer, Stacy Springer, Mike and Teresa Wright, Sherri Moranville Mertz and Steven Wray Moranville.
