Romaine George Honold
Romaine George Honold, son of George William Honold and Mae Helen Anderson Honold, was born August 17, 1935 at home on the family farm in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa. Lovingly known as Ron, he attended Willow Township #4 before advancing to school in Coon Rapids. He graduated in 1953. Iowa State College was next on his career move. He earned his BA Degree in Agriculture and later earned his master’s degree in counseling. Ron worked for Haig Hatchery and Sianamid. He then taught school and was a Guidance Counselor for Bayard High School. Ron was united in marriage to Cleo Mae Matthews at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson on September 7, 1957. They were proud parents of Alan Matthew, Charles “Chuck”, and Michelene “Mikki”. The family moved to Jefferson in 1970 where Ron was a Manager at Franklin Manufacturing. He accepted the position of Purchasing Agent for Electrolux Manufacturing in 1974 and retired on December 31, 1999 after 25 years of service. The children all graduated Jefferson High School and Cleo and Ron moved to Ames in 1986 where they have happily resided until the present. Ron enjoyed being in the Lions Club in Jefferson where he had served as President and the Jefferson Elks Lodge. His church memberships, including Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson and his current membership at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames were the most important. Ron loved to read, but after being blessed with grandchildren, his passion was to watch them participate in their sports and other activities. He would go to great lengths to be present for them, no matter where or when. Cleo and Ron shared a very deep and abiding love which has been evident forever. He died June 22, 2023 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. Ron was preceded in death by his parents George and Mae, brother-in-law James “Jim” Pierick, and nephew Michael Pierick.
