Roberta E. Hall

Roberta E. Hall, “Birdie” as she was known to her family and friends, was the daughter of Otto and Lina (Hobert) Schumann. She was born on May 18, 1920 at Battle Creek and departed this life July 7 at the Gowrie Care Center in Gowrie. She lived her life to the age of 94 years.

Birdie was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Birdie attended country school through the 8th grade and later received her GED.   

On June 27, 1942 Roberta Hall was united in marriage to Raymond Hall at Tacoma, Washington. Three children were born to this union. After Raymond was discharged from the service, the couple farmed in the Callender and Farnhamville vicinity. In 1979, they retired from farming and moved into Farnhamville. Raymond passed away in 1983 and Birdie continued to make her home in Farnhamville until June of 2012 when she became a resident of the Gowrie Care Center.

Birdie was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Helping Hands Circle and Senior Citizens of Farnhamville and also a member of the Callender American Legion Auxiliary.

Birdie is survived by her three children; Gary and his wife, Sheila, of Farnhamville, Michael and his wife, Vicki, of Cedar Rapids and Shelly Berger and her husband, Bill, of Jefferson, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a brother, Leonard Schumann, three sisters, Frances Weifenbach, Lorraine Schumann and Alice Meyer and a great-grandchild, Catherine Nemmers.

A celebration of Birdie’s life was held July 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville with Pastor Robert Zellmer officiating. Musical selections, “Jesus Savior Pilot Me”, “Jesus Loves Me” and “Onward Christian Soldiers” was sung by the congregation and accompanied by organist, Marsha Subbert. Burial was in the Reading Township Cemetery near Farnhamville.

Serving as casket bearers were Keith Weifenbach, Kevin Weifenbach, Bob Meyer, Dale Berndt, Louis Fallesen and Larry Schumann.
