Robert Dean Fey
Robert Dean Fey, age 96, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Carroll Health Center.
Born on February 1, 1917, to Albert D. and Bernice (Haag) Fey on the family farm west of Scranton that was purchased in 1880 by his grandfather Albert H. Fey after coming here from Illinois. He attended Scranton Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1933. He stayed on the farm after graduation helping his father in raising grain and livestock. On June 8, 1940, he married Elizabeth Eason who lived with her parents on a farm north of Scranton. They formed a partnership with Bob’s father and years later with their son Stephen.
Bob has served on the Scranton Farmer’s Elevator Coop board and also on the Scranton Consolidated School board. He was a member of the former Scranton Friends Church serving as an elder and teaching Sunday school for many years. He was privileged to sing at 120 funerals and several weddings in the area. He also served for a time as song leader at Pleasant Ridge Church south of Glidden.
In later years he and Elizabeth spent part of, and later most of, twenty eight winters in Arizona. They gained a special appreciation for the state with its warm climate and many hiking trails in the deserts and mountains.
Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Scranton; a son Stephen Fey and his wife Debra of Scranton; three grandchildren: Wendy Riedell and her husband Adam of Nevada, Iowa, Marcus Fey and his wife Kanyapon of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, and Loralee Fey of Ames, Iowa; and three great grandchildren: Ashton, Jakob, and Tyler; two nieces: Karol Long of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Donalee MacIlvaine and her husband Chris of Tucson, Arizona; a sister-in-law Patty Eason of Scranton; two nephews: Perry Eason of Scranton and Phil Eason and his wife Laurie of Kelly, Iowa; a niece Polly Eason of Carroll; and several cousins.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Homer, two sisters Maude Hoover and Margaret Hess; two nephews: Dick Fey and Larry Hoover, and a niece Janice Combatalade
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Marv Norlien officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 P.M. on Thursday until the time of service. Music for the service will be by Mike and Sue Moore. Casket bearers will be Denny Moran, Cliff McFarland, Glen Christensen, Neal Hoyt, Doug Carmen, and Mark O’Leary. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
