Richard Lane

Richard (Rich) Elmer Lane passed away Wednesday, September 12, in Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 91. A private service with military honors was held for the family at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa, officiated by Pastor Steve Ransom.

Rich, son of Elmer and Edna Lane, was born on November 7, 1926 in Jefferson, Iowa. He graduated from Jefferson High School. Rich was enlisted in the U.S. Navy between 1943 and 1946 and was a Seaman First Class while serving during World War II in the Pacific.

On August 20, 1952, he married Janice (Jan) Jorgensen. They made their home in Jefferson and became parents to three daughters: Pam, Penny and Paula and two sons, Randy and Joe.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Rich held various odd jobs until becoming employed at the Iowa DOT and retired after 38 years of service. Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. After retirement, Rich and Jan enjoyed traveling in an RV to warmer places in the southwestern United States during the winter months, camping in national parks and visiting several monuments along the way.

Besides his parents, Rich is preceded in death by his sister, Arlis Coover and daughter, Penny Louk. Rich is survived by his wife, Jan Lane of Jefferson; brothers, Bill Lane (Pat), Clyde (Buzz) Lane (Alyce) and Ron Lane (Pat); sister, Pat Triplet; daughters, Pam Hulsey ( Jim) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Paula Wiltman (Kim) of Le Mars, Iowa; sons, Randy Lane of Afton, Iowa and Joe Lane of Jefferson; and a son-in-law, Dennis Louk of Jefferson; grandchildren: Angela Pearce (Keith), Jennifer Durlam (Heath), Chad Louk (Christine), Jessi Holtrop (Isaac), Sean Culbertson (Talya), Nick Lane, Kasey Lane, Makaylah Lane and Lauren Lane; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Jefferson Public Library.
