Richard Klein

Richard Michael Klein, 67, of Jefferson, Iowa, formerly of Manchester, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by family. 

Rick was born July 9, 1951, in Manchester, the first of seven children born to Raymond M. and Beverly A. (Ungs) Klein. Rick attended St. Mary School and then graduated from West Delaware High School in 1969. He was married to Susan Schlee on August 1, 1970. They had two daughters, Aimee Klein and Abby (Joshua) Wilcox. 

Rick loved listening to music and playing bass guitar. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed performing, playing in bands throughout his life. Rick loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, bowhunting, trapping and spending weekends camping with his family. He also loved telling jokes.

Rick and his family lived in Manchester until 1984 when they moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa. In 1985 they moved to Decorah where he was the proud owner/manager of Decorah Bumper to Bumper.  He spent 10 years in the west with his family, but moved back to Iowa in 2006. Rick worked as Purchasing Manager/Materials Director at Scranton Mfg. Co. until his passing.

Survivors include his children, Aimee Klein of Decorah and Abby (Joshua) Wilcox of Stewartville, Minn.; grandchildren, Blake and Kaija Klein of Decorah; mother, Beverly Klein of Manchester; siblings: Rob Klein, Mark (Janet) Klein, Kim (Bart) Haigh and Kari (Jerry) Clute. Rick is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Klein, Jr.; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his sister, Mary Lee Olson; and his brother, Kevin Klein.

He was a loving man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Visitation was 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, October 8 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment was at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Manchester.

Leonard-Muller Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
