Raymond Shorey

Raymond M. Shorey, 90, of Washington, passed away at 3:18 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at Washington Christian Village.

He was born April 10, 1926 in Bloomington, Ill. to Raymond Oscar and Edna Gainer Shorey. He married Gertrude Meta Nicolaisen on Dec. 3, 1947. She preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Raymond is survived by two sons, Gary (Sheila) Shorey Sr. of Elk Grove Village, Ill. and Eric Shorey of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren: Melissa Minter, Gary Shorey Jr., James Shorey, Kiera Shorey and Brendan Shorey; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, JoAnn Kersey.

Raymond was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. He retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 36 years of service. He was a loving dad, grandpa and great-grandpa and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church in East Peoria.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with Rev. Kurt Mews officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.
