Phyllis Tuhn

Phyllis Irene Tuhn, daughter of Patrick Mahlon Coil and Grace Mae Rice Coil, was born April 14, 1930, in Jefferson and died March 16 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson at the age of 89.

Phyllis grew up in Jefferson and attended school there.  

Phyllis married William Richard “Dick” Tuhn and they became parents of Dick, Jack, Barbara, Edith Ann, Charles, Jean, Leonard and Rick.

Phyllis lived most of her life in Greene County. 

Phyllis was a devoted, hardworking mother. She liked to cook and had worked as a cook at the Corner Cafe, Larry’s and at the Klassie Club, all in Grand Junction. Phyllis also enjoyed gardening.  

Phyllis lived with her daughter Jean in Grand Junction for 20 years before going to Regency Park almost two years ago. She loved her family very much and enjoyed having visits from her grandchildren. Christmas was always very special to Phyllis.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband William Richard “Dick” Tuhn (Feb. 10, 1985); firstborn child, son Dick Tuhn; baby daughter Edith Ann Tuhn; brothers: Delmar Coil and his wife Irma; and Galen Coil; son-in-law Marty Carlson; and her in-laws, Charles and Nellie Tuhn.  

Phyllis is survived by her children: Jack Tuhn (Doreen), of Jefferson; Barbara Ann Tuhn, of Jefferson; Charles Tuhn, of Bouton; Jean Tuhn, of Grand Junction: Leonard Tuhn, Rick Tuhn, both of Jefferson; and daughter-in-law Judy Tuhn, of Grand Junction; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Darlene Bulware, of California; brother Howard Coil, of Iowa; cousins, nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.

The Hastings Funeral Home is assisting the family.
