Peggy Dunne

Peggy Lee Dunne, the daughter of Clifford and Martha (Kelley) Rhoades, was born March 18, 1924 in Jefferson, Iowa and left this life November 6, 2018 at the Greene County Long Term Facility in Jefferson. She lived a long life of 94 years, 7 months and 19 days.

Peggy attended and graduated from Jefferson High School. On February 4, 1945, Peggy Rhoades was united in marriage to Gerald N. Dunne at the First Christian Church in Jefferson. Five children were born to this union. Gerald and Peggy farmed near Churdan and raised their family. They moved into Churdan in 1981. Due to his health, Gerald became a resident of Regency Park Care Center in Jefferson. Peggy was with him almost every day until his death in 2011.

Peggy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Churdan. She helped in the church office, with missions and Baptist women’s group. She enjoyed making quilts and was an accomplished seamstress. She loved to host family dinners and took a special interest in her grandchildren and their activities. Peggy liked to travel which included a trip to the Philippines, trips to southern states with friends, to the west coast to visit her daughters and the eastern coast several times. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved watching them on TV.

Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Jane (Jack) Prestidge and Sue (Ron) Wanger, both of Battle Ground, Wash., two sons, David (Renee) Dunne of Scranton and Bill Dunne of Badger; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Deb Dunne of Ames. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard; grandson, Jason Wanger; two sisters, Barbara Rose and Joyce Kinsman; and two brothers, Bob and Joseph Rhoades.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Burial was made in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan. Peggy’s granddaughter, Carrie Dunne sang “It is Well” and the congregation sang “Give Thanks” and “Amazing Grace” with Danille Curtis accompanying. Serving as casket bearers were Peggy’s grandchildren.
