Opal “Nadine” Yepsen Lynch was born on Christmas Eve in 1926 to Ralph Andrew and Verola Mae Hartwig Yepsen in Kanawha, Iowa. She lived in Kanawha, Carroll and Coon Rapids during her school years. She sang in the school chior, participated in marching band as a majorette and was homecoming queen during her senior year in high school, graduating from Coon Rapids in 1945. After high school, she moved to Jefferson to be with her family, who had moved there a year earlier. There she met Allen Jay Lynch. After he finished military service, they were married on March 28, 1948.

Jay and Nadine had three children: Janine Mae in 1950, Jay Allen in 1954 and James Andrew in 1960. While in Jefferson, Jay worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. as a lineman. Jay and Nadine had many good friends through the company.

Nadine was very involved in her children’s activities. She and Jay were also members of the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school.

They moved from Jefferson for Jay’s job change in 1963. While in Belle Plaine, Nadine took a job as a switchboard operator with Amana Refrigeration. She worked for Amana for 12 years. Upon moving to Des Moines, Jay and Nadine managed apartment buildings as a semi-retirement job. They permanently retired in the 1980’s and moved back to Jefferson to live at Greenewood.

After Jay passed in 2008, Nadine moved to Williamsburg to live near her son, Jim, at Highland Ridge Assisted Living and Nursing Care facility. She received wonderful care there until her death on May 23, 2017. Nadine celebrated her 90th birthday last December at the Highland Ridge facility with many friends and relatives in attendance.

Nadine will be remembered for her warm heart and deep love for her family. She was a mother that was always there for her children.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay; her brothers, Arlon Yepsen (Marjorie) and Jack Yepsen (Lea) and her sister, JoAnn Corcoran (Bud). She is survived by her children: Janine Hales (Stanley), Allen Lynch ( Karla) and Jim Lynch (Sandy); 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Don Yepsen (Alice); sister, Donna Duncan (Bill); and sisters-in-law, Mary Lynch (Kenny) and Lea Yepsen.
