Milton Grothe

Milton Ralph Grothe, passed away August 10, 2018 in Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 88. He was the son of Reinehart Grothe and Clara Taylor Grothe. Born in Omaha, Neb., he was a resident of Jefferson the last few years of life.

Milton joined the Navy in 1947 at 17 years old. He became a member of the SeaBees and spent a year in Guam during his enlistment. He also earned his high school diploma through Ottumwa High School during this time.

Milt spent 27.5 years employed with the Iowa DOT, a job he greatly enjoyed. After his retirement in 1997, he drove the WIC bus in Corning, Iowa, transporting kindergartners. This was a job he loved.

In 2010, Milton met the love of his life, Linda. They were married on November 1, 2015. Once they were together, it was rare to see them apart.

Milton was a self-proclaimed lifelong Baptist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson. He also enjoyed being a member of the Jefferson Elks Lodge.

Milt’s mission in life was to make EVERYONE laugh. He loved to sing, dance and entertain any and all. He never met a stranger as anyone he’d met can attest to. Many, many lives were touched by this little man with a huge love of life. He will be greatly missed by all.

Milton is survived by his wife, Linda P. Johnston, and many extended family members.
