Millie Bucklin

Millie (Stevens) Bucklin, 90, of Jefferson, died on Jan. 13. 

Funeral services were held at the Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home on Jan. 19, with words of comfort provided by  Bruce Webster of the Church of Christ.

Pall bearers were Jack Bucklin, Jim Ure, Tom Shearman and Randy Graven.

Burial was in the Jefferson Cemetery.

Millie was the youngest child of Henry and Abbie (Waldo) Stevens. She was born on May 14, 1930, on the family farm in Greene County and grew up the consummate “farm girl” loving animals, flowers, plants and outdoor activities. 

She attended Bayard Community Schools, where she played basketball and graduated in the Class of ’48. After graduating, she married Jim Bucklin and began a family, eventually living on the family farm between Bayard and Scranton in Greenbrier Twp.

The family grew to four children — David, Jack, Ann and Mary. 

After living on the farm for 12 years, they moved to Jefferson, where her circle of friends and acquaintances grew, and many came to love her. Later in life Millie was cared for at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab Center.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Richard; her sister Alice; her son David; and her ex-husband Jim.

Millie is survived by her son, Jack Bucklin, of Cooper; daughters Ann Bucklin, of Los Angeles, and Mary Bucklin, of Amelia, Ohio; grandchildren Mason (Hannah) Bucklin, Laura Bucklin, Jack Bucklin and Matthew (Girasol) O’Neal; great-grandchildren Rosalind, Mason and Braden Bucklin (Mason and Hannah) and Carmelo O’Neal (Matthew and Girasol); sisters-in-law Carolyn Bucklin, of Des Moines, and Pearl Betts, of Jefferson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Wilma Bucklin, of Roland; nieces and nephews and other friends.
