Mildred Marchant

Mildred L. Marchant, 82, daughter of Frederick & Bernice (Sweet) Dygert, was born May 29, 1932 in Guthrie County. She passed away July 15, at The New Homestead in Guthrie Cent.  

Mildred attended Panora schools. On June 14, 1947, she married Rex Marchant in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union eight children were born. They moved south of Panora in 1952.  In 1966, they moved into Panora. Mildred was a homemaker and also worked various jobs in the community. For 8 years, she worked as a bartender for the B & M Tavern from the mid 1960’s until the early 1970’s.      

She enjoyed cooking, baking bread, country music, and rodeo’s.

She is survived by her children, Rexanna (Mike) Ketelsen of Linden; Twila Jean (Charlie) Hanes of Stuart; Cynthia (Darrell) Shook of Panora; Jeri (Tim) Gettler of Jefferson; Randy H. (Sharon) Marchant of Stuart; Eric Marchant of Panora; Scott (April) Marchant of Franklin, NC; and Joey (Lyn) Marchant of Waukee.  Special nephew, Timmy (Jill) Monroe of Murray; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; niece, Julie (Jerry) Irving of Pleasantville; and four sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rex in 1990, 2 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, a sister, and a brother.  

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. July 19, at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Burial will be in the West Cemetery, Panora.  Visitation will be Friday, July 18, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m.-8 .m.m. at the funeral home.     

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
