Michael Ross

Michael Lee Ross was born in Jefferson, Iowa at Greene County Hospital on June 30, 1962 to Donald and Mary Ross. He departed this earth on December 2, 2016 in Newton, Kansas at the age of 54.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in May 1981. After completing high school, he started his career in driving semis for various people/companies throughout his lifetime, ending with Casey’s General Stores in Ankeny, Iowa. He also had many side jobs through time, including security at the Boone Speedway and driving the party bus out of Des Moines, which he loved making each trip fun for the patrons.

Mike married Terri Cook on February 3, 1996. Into this marriage a son was born, Lance Michael on January 26, 1997.

Mike loved watching Lance play various sports, playing cards and games with friends and family and just being with his dog, J Lo. Mike was a member of the Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and EMS for over 19 years.

Mike is survived by his wife, Terri Ross of Grand Junction; his son, Lance Ross of Grand Junction; step-sons: Nicholas Cook, Ben (Tifini) Cook and Brett (Nebbie) Cook all of Syracuse, Kan.; step-daughter, Anya Cook of Sioux City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mary Ross of Jefferson; his father, Donald (Lila) Ross of Branson West, Mo.; brother, Robert (Jeni) Ross of Ogden, Iowa; his sisters, Jody (Ron) Grimsley of Jefferson and Brenda (Jeff) Wood of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Ramsey, Dryden, Sarah, Jacob, Jennifer, Zachary (Clarabelle) and Rebecca; other relatives and many friends.

A service of remembrance was held Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson with Pastor Steve Ransom of First United Methodist Church, Grand Junction, officiating. Casket bearers were Hunter Cook, Eric Higgins, Danny Newton, Larry Silbaugh, Darin Ross and Jack Sherrick. Serving as honorary bearers were Dewey Phipps, Bob Ross, Mike Fields, Clay Cook, Danny Fields, Kevin  Eckas and Steve Drake. “The Wind Beneath My Wings,” “Amazing Grace” and “Jealous of the Angels” were played. Interment was at Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction.
