Michael Gingery

Michael George Gingery, 50, went on his final earthly fishing trip on September 15, 2016 at his favorite fishing spot near Lanesboro, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life was held Wednesday, September 21 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson with visitation with the family one hour prior to the service. Father Jeff Schleisman of St. Joseph Catholic Church provided words of comfort. “On Eagle’s Wings” was played. Honorary bearers were Amanda Smith, Zebulon Smith, Austin Smith, Ryan “Bear” Gingery, Travis Gingery, Tyler Gingery, Stephanie Fogarty, Liza Brasz, Ben Borkowski, Nicole Borkowski, Katie Fisher, Dan Eliserio, Eric Eliserio, Julie Eliserio-Alger, Jake Eischeid, Ike Eischeid, Tim Eischeid, Michael Eischeid, Jonas Eberle and Noah Eberle. Internment was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, west of Churdan following the celebration.

Mike was born June 21, 1966 in Jefferson, Iowa to Jim and Anne Gingery of Churdan. He attended Lohrville High School and graduated in 1985. Mike was a tirelessly hard worker and was employed in several trades, most recently at McLaughlin International in Lake City, Iowa. Mike was a man of few words, but of many talents: he was artistic, musical and endlessly witty. Mike was a true outdoorsman, enjoying cycling and especially fishing. He truly could do nearly anything he set his mind to.

On September 25, 1999 he was united in marriage to Sharlene Smith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Carroll. Together they raised three children: Amanda, Zebulon and Austin. Through their children Mike was introduced to the joy of his life, his grandchildren: Lillian, Zander, Ethan, Kaiden, Jason, Haley, Malachi, Olivia, Zoe and Zephyr.

Michael is survived by his wife, Sharlene Gingery of Carroll; children: Amanda Smith of Carroll, Zebulon (Heather) Smith of Lake City and Austin (Akemi) Smith of Lake View; mother, Anne Gingery of Jefferson; siblings: Steve (Lori) Gingery of Boone, Mark (Colleen) Gingery of Sioux City, Iowa, Maureen (Dennis) Borkowski of Jefferson, Suzanne Eliserio of Altoona, Iowa, Kathleen Gingery of Perry and Angie (Robby) Pedersen of Jefferson; ten grandchildren: Lillian, Zander, Ethan, Kaiden, Jason, Haley, Malachi, Olivia, Zoe and Zephyr; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, James Gingery.
