Mary Schuttler

Private family services were held at the Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home for Mary Lou Schuttler, 93.

Words of comfort were provided by Commissioned Pastor Wendy Pittman, of the First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction.

Recorded music included “Beyond the Sunset,” “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Casket bearers were nephews Steve Schuttler and Greg Schuttler. 

Interment was in the Junction Twp. Cemetery.

Mary Lou Schuttler, daughter of Louise (Krieger) Schuttler and Louis Schuttler, was born May 14, 1926, on the family farm near Rippey.  Mary Lou, the first born, was joined later by brothers Donald and Norman.

Mary Lou graduated from Grand Junction High School with the class of 1944. She planned to attend college, however, because of World War II, Mary Lou attended a 10-week government program for clerical, typing and stenography at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.  Upon completion, she was sent to Wright-Patterson Air Field in Dayton, Ohio, where she worked for two years.

Maintaining her interest in attending college, Mary Lou became a student at Iowa State University in Ames. She studied foods and nutrition, majoring in dietetics.

Upon graduation, she interned at Ancker Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Through the years, Mary Lou worked at hospitals in St. Paul, Evanston, Ill., Des Moines and Cherokee. She had the honor of being chosen to participate in writing two diet manuals. Mary Lou retired in 1991.

Mary Lou was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction and belonged to the Mary Martha Circle. She was an auxiliary volunteer at the Greene County Medical Center for many years. Her hobbies included collecting stamps and decorative plates. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and elsewhere.

Mary Lou Schuttler passed away April 14 at the age of 93 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Donald and Norman.  

Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Berniece Schuttler, of Rippey, and Carol Schuttler, of Ralston, Neb.; nephews Steve Schuttler, of Rippey, and Greg (Robin) Schuttler, of Blue Springs, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction.
