Mary Jordan

Mary Elizabeth Wilson Jordan was born at the Greene County Hospital, in Jefferson on Sept. 12, 1949. Her parents were Fern (Hane) Wilson and Elmo Wilson. When Mary was in the third grade, the family moved to an Andrew farm south of Jefferson. There were artesian wells, with a tank for watering the cows. On hot days, Mary and her sister, Kathy, would sneak down to the tanks to get cooled off.

Mary rode the same school bus as her future husband, Dennis Jordan. The couple was united in marriage on November 19, 1966. They became the parents of two sons, Troy and Tony. Mary worked at Regency Park Nursing Home for several years. The family moved to an acreage south of Jefferson on the road to Squirrel Hollow. Mary babysat for the Ellsworth kids, getting them ready for the school bus.

Tony, Mary and Dennis attended Trinity Bible College. In 1990 they went to Durbin, South Africa on a five-week mission trip. A year later, they pastored in Leon, Iowa, and then in Miller, South Dakota. Finally they went to Gillette, Wyoming where she worked for an insurance company.

In 1999, they returned to Jefferson where she worked for the Republican party as a telemarketer.  Mary retired and took two cruise trips to Alaska.  She was later diagnosed with kidney disease. On November 17, 2019, Mary received a donor kidney and did well for a while.

Mary enjoyed camping, and crafting, and spending time with her husband, sons , and grandchildren.  Mary died May 10, 2022 at the Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson, Iowa.  She was 72 years of age. Preceding her in death were here parents; a sister, Roberta Crain; and brothers-in-law: Ron Zwicky and Werner Funcke.

Mary is survived by her husband, Dennis Jordan; two sons: Troy (Nicole) Jordan and Tony (Reymalyn) Jordan;  sisters: Carol Zwicky and Kathy Funcke; brother-in-law, Charles Crain; sister-in-law, Judy (Rich) Burnell; many nieces and nephews; aunt, Norma (Don) Hiddleson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Visitation was held Sunday, May 15 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home

in Jefferson. Funeral service was Monday, May 16 at  Northside Assembly in Jefferson.
