Mary Jo Burchfield

Mary Jo Burchfield, age 75, died peacefully at Greene County Medical Center on Oct. 7, 2022. Mary Jo was born on Oct. 1 to Virgil and Mary Leone Kiefer. She had two older brothers, Richard and Norman, and later helped welcome a younger sister, Kathleen.
Mary Jo Kiefer married Joseph Burchfield on April 8, 1967. They made their home west of Dana where Joe farmed. Mary Jo ran her beauty salon, Kut and Kurl Korner in Grand Junction until retiring from hair. She then tried her hand at managing a restaurant and making pizzas at Casey’s in Grand Junction before settling at Greene County Medical Center until retirement.
Mary Jo loved her family more than anything, even popcorn! Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. This explained stepping into the cattle barn to view their 4H cattle projects when she was afraid of cattle and watching the boys’ football games even though she did not understand the game. She enjoyed playing games with her grandkids even if they would beat her or trying to scare them at Halloween with different masks.
A mother’s love is a pure, strong and unconditional kind of love and Mary Jo’s love was just that for anyone she cared about. Mary Jo is leaving a big void in the hearts that loved her.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Joseph (Big Joe), her parents, her parent-in-laws, Charles and Viola Burchfield, brothers, and niece Kristie Kiefer.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter Jennifer Jo (Mark) Miller, her son Joseph (Lil’ Joe), grandchildren Kasey, Tyler (Jaislynn Happe), Jesse Miller and one great grandson, Tate LeRoy Miller, sister Kathy (Dean) Jennings, sister-in-law, Debbie Kiefer and many nieces/nephews and friends.
Services to honor Mary Jo’s life will be held Monday, Oct. 24 at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church and Parish Center in Grand Junction. Family will be present at 9 a.m. with a Catholic Mass to commence at 10:30 followed by a gathering to share stories and memories with the family over lunch at St. Brigid Parish Center.
