Martha Scheuermann

Martha Scheuermann, 75, of rural Cooper, Iowa died Sunday, March 4, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 9 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home followed by graveside committal at the Jefferson Cemetery and luncheon at the Cooper United Methodist Church.

Martha Maxine (Trask) Scheuermann was born December 6, 1942 to Charlie and Grace (Martin) Trask in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She entered Eternal Life on March 4, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota surrounded by her family. She fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Martha grew up in Renwick, Iowa and graduated from Boone Valley High School in 1960. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville in 1966 with a degree in elementary education.  She later obtained advanced education from Iowa State University in the field of special education. She taught in the Jefferson, Grand Community (Boxholm) and Coon Rapids-Bayard school districts.  She touched the lives of many students over the years and retired from teaching in 2008.

Martha was united in marriage to Darrell Scheuermann on June 21, 1969. They made their home in the Bagley and then Cooper areas. To this union were born two children, Troy and Traci. Martha will be remembered for her dedication to her family and friends as well as her devotion to her Christian faith. She especially loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities. Martha was a hard-working farm wife in addition to being a teacher. She loved nature and was conservation-minded. Martha was a leader in many community service projects and groups. She was an active member of Cooper United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Super Cooper committee, Cooper Cemetery Memorial Day Service, Order of the Easter Star and Franklin Culture Club.  Martha was an avid basketball fan, attending the Girls’ State Basketball Tournaments every year with Darrell and many of their friends. She enjoyed traveling and being on-the-go. She was always ready for new adventures with friends and late night phone conversations.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Grace Trask of Renwick and her husband, Darrell, in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Roy and Wilma Scheuermann of Jefferson. Martha is survived by her children, Dr. Troy Scheuermann and his wife, Ralinda of Keosauqua, Iowa along with their children, Taryn and Kaitlyn, and Rev. Traci Houts and her husband, Rev. Willem Houts of Sussex, Wisconsin along with their children: Grace, Lauren and Evan. Martha is also survived by her brothers, Harold (Pat) Trask of Renwick, Iowa and Dr. David (Christine) Trask of Burlington, Wis.; sisters-in law, Linda (Rich) Schaeffer of Parkers Prairie, Minn. and Donna Rae Scheuermann of New Hope Village in Carroll, Iowa. Martha also leaves to cherish her memory several nieces and a nephew, many friends and extended family.
