Mark Delp

Mark Allen Delp, son of Jacob Delp and Carolyn Rose Lami Delp, was born October 2, 1962 in Jefferson, Iowa. Mark died unexpectedly January 31, 2017 near his home in Dawson, Iowa. He was 54 years, 3 months and 29 days old.

Funeral services for Mark were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at Hastings Funeral Home, Jefferson. Rev. Steve Ransom of the United Methodist Church, Grand Junction, provided the words of comfort. Mark’s casket bearers were Tyler Delp, Alan Mundt, Jake Mundt, James Delp, John Delp and David Delp. Recorded music selections were “In the Arms of an Angel” by Sarah McLachlan and “The Rose” by Bette Middler. Interment was in the Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction. A time of lunch and fellowship was held at the new Grand Junction Community Center following the service at the cemetery.

Mark grew up on a farm outside of Grand Junction. He graduated from East Greene High School in 1981. He was a good worker and started at Ace Hardware at a young age. Mark and Susie Beeler were parents of a son, Tyler, and they made their home on an acreage near Squirrel Hollow. Mark had a long career with Tyson in Perry until his health failed a year ago. Mark and Brenda Nicholaisen were blessed with a daughter, Brook. Mark married Joann Woodard and the family was happy with the arrival of Donovin. They made their home in Dawson. Mark’s greatest love and joy was his family. They spent many hours together.  

Mark was a sports fan, the Eagles and Hawkeyes were his favorite teams. He also enjoyed Camaros, classic rock music and movies. Mark purchased many movies which he loved to share with his children.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Carolyn and his brother, Steve. Mark is survived by his children: Tyler A. Delp of Dawson, Brook Pettry (Benjamin Cuellar) of Marshalltown and Donovin Delp of Dawson; grandson, Noe Cuellar; brothers, Jim Delp (Terri) of Grand Junction, John Delp of Des Moines and David Delp (Toni) of Carrol; sisters, Gail Delp and Sharon Delp both of Perry and Joann Gooding (Larry) of Ankeny; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
