Marcella Marie Wilson, 83, of Jefferson, Iowa, passed away from cancer at 10:28 a.m. on July 26th, 2017 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Marcella was born on August 7, 1933 in Minburn, Iowa. While attending Perry High School she met her future husband, Neil Wilson, of Woodward, Iowa. They were married in 1952. They moved to Jefferson a few years later to pursue job opportunities.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Neil Wilson; father, Mason Faber; mother, Edna Gottschalk; brothers, Merle and Floyd Faber; sisters, Margaret Faber and Betty Schall of Des Moines, Iowa; and son-in-law, Eugene ‘Gene’ Ritchie. She is survived by her brother, Delbert (Tina) Faber of Des Moines; son, Michael (Kris) Wilson of Ames, Iowa; daughter, Michele Ritchie of The Villages, Fla.; grandchildren: Dustin (Erin) Ritchie of Baton Rouge, La., Daniel Ritchie of San Diego, Calif., Douglas (Jordan) Ritchie of Savannah, Ga., Nathaniel ‘Nate’ Wilson and Mattea Wilson of Ames; great-grandchild, Harper Lynn Ritchie of Savannah; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Marcella worked in retail businesses, along with her husband, most of her life. Together they owned two Jefferson businesses, the local Super Valu grocery store and the Trading Post. Later in life, she drove a bus for the Western Iowa Transit System (WITS).
Marcella loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild, Harper Lynn. She also enjoyed wintering in Panama City Beach, Fla., having lunch with friends at Congregate Meals, afternoon coffee with friends at Dairy Queen and traveling to Perry to lunch with classmates at McCreary Community Center or Burger King. She was also an avid book reader, who enjoyed playing cards and putting jigsaw puzzles together.
According to Marcella’s wishes, she was cremated, and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
