Lyle Collogan

Lyle Martin Collogan, 95, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 22, 2018. He was born October 21, 1922 in Grand Junction, Iowa to Martin J. and Elizabeth (Schuttler) Collogan.  He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1940 as class president and valedictorian. After graduating from Simpson College in 1943, he joined the United States Marine Corps, subsequently serving in the Pacific theater.

As a Marine he was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded on day five of The Battle of Iwo Jima. Following recovery, he served as a ranking Marine in Japan during the occupation.

Upon returning to the States he married Della Mae Bruns and began a life of farming, working for the United States Postal Service and selling insurance. Della and Lyle were married for 57 years until Della’s death in 2003. Lyle was also preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine and brother, Lowell.

He was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church and served in many different capacities throughout the years. He had a great heart for God, his family, the disabled and his country.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Beverly whom he married in 2004. He is also survived by his children: Jim (Becky) of Ankeny, Dan (Kim) of Roanoke, Va., Caryn of Hampton; Mark (Rhonda) of Des Moines and David (Krista) of Indianola; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 29 at Grandview Park Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. at Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa. A reception will follow at United Methodist Church of Grand Junction.
