Lorna Cuddy, 92, of Jefferson, died Monday, April 24, 2017 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 28 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson with a Vigil Service to follow at 7 p.m.
Lorna Lydia Seeden Cuddy, was born May 19, 1924, to Dick and Hulda Seeden, the middle of three children: Leo, the oldest and Janice, her baby sister. Dick and Hulda raised their kids on a farm south of Scranton, with Hereford cattle, corn and beans, a healthy egg business and her grandmother’s great garden. She graduated from Bayard High School and later moved to Jefferson and worked at Brunner’s Creamery. After a year or so, she moved to San Diego, Calif. to work in the war effort and live with her cousins.
Lorna moved back to Jefferson and met Jim Cuddy, on leave from the Navy. They were married June 17, 1946, and they rarely left each other’s side again. After a time spent moving around the country, Jim went into education and
Lorna raised their five sons in several Iowa locations, finally once again ending up in Jefferson.
Raising five boys was the pride of her life, and she was endlessly patient with them all. She loved hearing stories from her children, grandchildren and step-grandchildren about their lives, and her pride in her family was immense.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2009; her parents and her brother, Leo Seeden.
She is survived by her five sons: Dick Cuddy (Marge) of The Villages, Fla., Craig Cuddy (Susan DeWitt) of Jefferson, Steve Cuddy (Kathy) of Jefferson, Mark Cuddy (Kitty Sheehan) of Hurley, N.Y. and Joe Cuddy (Susan Timmerman) of Jefferson. Lorna is also survived by nine grandchildren: Trent (Kele) Cuddy, Chad (Becky) Cuddy, Jena (Jim) Cuddy Stepien, Melissa Cuddy, Zeke Cuddy, Kyle Cuddy, Cooper Cuddy, Hannah Cuddy and Jack Cuddy; four step-grandchildren: Abby Fellingham, Kristin (Jack) Byers, Brad (Cyndi) Fellingham and Natalie Reppa; and five great-grandchildren: Grace Cuddy, Adeline Stepien, Quintin Stepien, Morgan Cuddy and Mila Cuddy; her sister, Janice (Jerry) Kennedy of Grand Junction; other relatives and many friends.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph’s Women’s Council.
