Lois M. Case

Lois M. Case, 71, of Jefferson and formerly of Grinnell and Des Moines, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Lois, the daughter of Virgil L. Case and E. Margaret Sears Case, was born on August 26, 1942 and raised in Grinnell.  She attended Grinnell schools, graduating from Grinnell-Newburg Schools in 1960.  While living in Grinnell, she was employed by Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, the former Community Hospital later known as Grinnell General Hospital and Friendship Manor.
She attended Des Moines School of Practical Nursing receiving a Practical Nursing degree and license in 1970.  She later attended Des Moines Area Community College receiving an Associate Arts degree and Registered Nurse license in 1979.
While in Des Moines, she was employed by the former Des Moines General Hospital for 24 years, Woodbury West Nursing Home and Fleur Heights Nursing Home.  She was a member of several professional organizations, volunteered with the Iowa Heart Association, American Red Cross and the former Capital City Ambulance.
Lois returned to Grinnell in 1995 and was employed at Grinnell Regional Medical Center for a short time and later at St. Francis Manor before retiring from there in 2001.
She enjoyed doing needlework crafts, spending time with her family and attending their family activities.  She was a member of the Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines and until her health failed was an active member.
Survivors include her sister, Eileen (Bob) Case Meyer Pierce of Zephyrhills, Florida, several nieces and nephews, Karen (Gary Hetrick) Meyer of Coralville, Richard (Deb) Meyer of Mechanicsville, Cathy Buck of Grinnell, Dave Pierce of Montezuma, Marvin Pierce and Gary Pierce, both of Denver, Colorado and Diane (Mike) Mindrup of Houston, Texas; eleven great-nieces and nephews, Susan and Kimberly Loehr, Julie and Megan Meyer, Sara (Lucas) Vander Weerdt, Jacqi Buck, Alisha Pierce and Ellen, Emily, Hannah and Garrett Mindrup; and one great-great-niece, Jade Vander Weerdt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil on April 29, 1985 and Margaret on February 25, 1991.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Ken Wallace officiating.  Christy Trullinger was the organist.  Pallbearers were Mark Cranston, Gary Hetrick, Richard and Deb Meyer, Marvin Pierce and Chuck Trullinger.  Honorary bearers were Kathy Cranston, Dana Geisler, Karen Meyer and Don Terry.  Burial was at the Chester Cemetery, north of Grinnell.
