Leone Peterson

Leone G. Peterson, the daughter of Henry and Blanche (McCallan) Moranville, was born October 21, 1929 in Dana, Iowa and departed this life September 16, 2016 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 86 years, 10 months and 15 days.

Leone attended and graduated from Dana High School in 1947. On August 5, 1950, Leone Moranville was united in marriage to Howard Peterson at her parent’s home in Dana. To this union was born a daughter, Sherry. Howard and Leone farmed in the Dana area for many years following their marriage.

Leone began working at the Dana branch of Brenton Bank in 1963. She was promoted to bank manager and manager of the Insurance agency. When Brenton Bank closed the Dana branch, Leone became manager of the insurance agency at the Brenton Bank in Jefferson. Howard and Leone moved to Jefferson in 1990 when Howard retired from farming and Leone also retired from the bank that year.

She loved watching sporting events on TV, especially the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. One of her regrets in life might be that she didn’t live to see the Cubs win a World Series but she has now joined the love of her life, Howard, who passed away in 2008.

Leone is survived by her daughter, Sherry and her husband, Paul Buhler of Shawnee, Kansas and a granddaughter, Shannon Buhler of Brooklyn, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Howard E. Peterson and brothers and sisters: Oakley, Laverne, Kenneth, Eileen, Donald, Dale, Wayne and Elna.

A visitation for family and friends to celebrate Leone’s life was held Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson. A private family graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at the Jefferson City Cemetery in Jefferson.
