Larry Burkett

Larry Burkett, 78, of Rippey, passed away at the Greene County Medical Center on Dec. 12.

There will be no funeral services at this time. A celebration of life will be planned this spring.

Larry was born to Leland and Jeri Burkett on July 31, 1942. Larry grew up around Greene County and graduated from East Greene.

He worked in Grand Junction and Rippey as a maintenance man and was also the Rippey police officer for many years.

In 1963, he married Mary Smith and they were blessed with a son, Kevin, in 1964 and a daughter, Denise, in 1966. 

He loved the great outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a dedicated member of the Greene County conservation board for 30 years.

Left to tell his fishing and hunting stories are Mary, his wife of 57 years; his brother, Mick (Connie) Burkett, of Grand Junction; his son, Kevin (Cynde), of Perry; daughter Denise (Donnie) Carpenter, of Rippey; grandsons Matthew (Sam) Kinney and Hunter (Melissa) Kinney, of Rippey; his granddaughters Jasmine (Matt) McNeill, of Rippey; Heather (Colten) Ketelsen, of Perry; Sid (Sean) Groff, of Illinois.

Larry also had nine great-grandchildren who lightened up his life.

His memories and stories will also be shared by many other family members and friends.
