Kelsey Smith

Kelsey May Smith was born on June 30, 1992 in Omaha, Nebraska to Jeff and Judy (Gilley) Smith.  She grew up in the Valley/Waterloo area and attended Valley Grade School and graduated from DC West High School in 2011. From an early age, Kelsey enjoyed fishing, raising animals, crafts, music, coloring, gardening and working on her i-pad.   

During high school, Kelsey started to work at Goodwill Industries in Omaha and continued there after graduation. She also helped during the busy season at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Kelsey participated in the school play for four years, was active in 4-H for ten years, STUCO, Foreign Language Club and VSP. She was a loving, caring, strong woman with a smile that would light up any room. Kelsey loved the color orange, country music and Harry Potter movies. She was an avid fan of the Tennessee Lady Vols, Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bulls. Kelsey enjoyed Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and  gravy, Gatorade and dinner out at Olive Garden.

Kelsey passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 22 years, 1 month and 22 days. She was preceded in death by grandfather Jim Gilley. Kelsey is survived by her parents Jeff and Judy; brother Nate all of Waterloo; Grandparents Janice Gilley of Grand Junction, Colette and Ron Wiggins of Orlando, FL and Neil Smith of Valley; great grandmother Evelyn McKillip of Savannah, MO. Aunts and uncles Jeff and Juanita Gilley of Grand Junction;  Jackie and Mark Gannon of Grand Junction; Jody and Rick Fox of Mount Ayer  and Angie Smith and fiancée Jose Zuniga of Pleasanton, California and numerous  cousins.
