Karen was born on April 1, 1954 in Jefferson, and she was the daughter of Wesley and LaVerne (Cochran) Brown. She grew up in the Churdan area and moved to Scranton with her parents when she was a young girl. Karen graduated from Scranton High School in 1972.
She moved to Nebraska and had a son, Aaron, in July of 1979. She continued to live in Nebraska and Iowa through the 1980’s and then had a daughter, Dawn, in January of 1990. She moved back to Iowa in the mid 2000’s, living in Scranton, Jefferson at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Center and more recently, Panora Speciality Care in Panora and remained there until her death.
Karen enjoyed crocheting, country music, going to the races in Boone, and spending time with her family. She also really liked twin bing candy bars, fried chicken and Pepsi. She also enjoyed socializing with all sorts of people and enjoyed talking to the aides and people that helped take care of her as her health declined in the past few years.
Karen is survived by her son, Aaron Clift, of Lake View, daughter Dawn Boring (Robert) of Boone, her sisters: Donna Gerdes of Ralston, Romona Johnson (Wayne) of Plant City, Florida, Sally Van Horn of Surprise, Arizona, and Mardell Shipley of Audubon, and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Wesley Brown, mother LaVerne Brown, three sisters: Velma Henning (Ivan), Doneta Linquist, and Roberta Noyes, and a brother, Dale, in infancy.
