John Wright

John Wright, 89, of rural Jefferson, passed away Feb. 17 at Westhaven Community in Boone. He had resided there since December 2011.

John was the son of Charles Mack and Cora Mae Wright and was born September 1, 1924 in Bruce, Wisconsin.

John married Norma Jean Nelson on March 3, 1946 and they began their life. John loved his wife and family, spending time with them, making memories and teaching life’s lessons by example. He loved raising animals and providing lots of kids an opportunity to experience a little farm life. He loved gardening and supplying family and friends with fresh vegetables. He also loved growing flowers and beautiful gardens. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Friends Church.

John is survived by his wife Norma; daughter Marcia Buckner and husband Tim of Boone; daughter-in-law Beth Wright of Perry;  five grandchildren: Shannon Bartley and husband  Lance of Harlan, Kara Gannon and husband Sonny of Dallas Center, Kelly Mohrman and husband Greg of Polk City, Lisa Luellen and husband Sean of Woodward and Chad Wright and wife Bonnie of Granger;  14 great-grandchildren:  Kelsey Nichole, Macy Lynne, Jacob Alan & Brenden Hans Bartley, Brittany Nikole Schoon, Brody Lee & Lani Jo Gannon, Allyson  Rose, Tyler John, Carly Camille Mohrman, Hannah Marie & Reilly Kent Luellen and Gabriel Kent & Gavin Michael Wright; great-great-grandson Bryler Morlan; two sisters: Marie McVay of Vancouver, Washington and  Evelyn Jones of Manilla; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Rodney Kent Wright; a granddaughter Stacie Marie Wright; great-grandson Bryce Timothy Bartley; his parents and three sisters: Netti Connor, Bertha Aulenbacher and Dorothy Keely.

A Service of Remembrance was held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 22 at the Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Words of Comfort were by Pastor Steve Ransom of the United Methodist Church of Grand Junction. Soloists were Allyson Mohrman  & Meladee Graven and Pianist was Travis Graven. Musical selections were I Will Rise, The Old Rugged Cross and Secret Love. Interment was at the Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction.

Casket Bearers were Tim Buckner, Chad Wright, Lance Bartley, Greg Mohrman, Sonny Gannon and Sean Luellen. Honorary Bearers were Darwin Pevestorf, Paul Mears, Randy Balderston, Don Wright and Steve Carrick.
