John Griffin

John (Jack) Griffin, the son of Bernard and Lena (Hansen) Griffin, was born October 24, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life August 3, 2018 at the Rowley Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa. He lived a full life to the age of 93 years, nine months and nine days.

Jack grew up in the Paton area attending country school and later graduated from Paton High School in 1942. He frequently praised both sets of his grandparents for their guidance while he was growing up and used them as role models for much of his life.

Jack had various jobs in the Paton area including at the Paton Drug Store while in high school. He also drove trucks for local businesses and worked for the Northwestern Railroad. On February 10, 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Mundt, and they farmed the Mundt family farm. One son, John Robert, was born to this union. After a tragic farm accident which took Roberta in 1969, Jack married Betty Williams on March 6, 1971 at the E.U.B. Church in Paton. They were married for 36 years until her death.

He enjoyed reading and learning about his current interests and hobbies which included shorthorn cattle, music, auctions and flea markets. He enjoyed people, socializing and attending all the local area parades and celebrations. He never met a stranger.

Jack is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Jan of Perry; one grandson, Jeffry; his wife, Rebecca and great granddaughter, Robynn of Clear Lake. He is also survived by a brother, Fred of Perry; a sister, JoAnn Griffin and husband Brian of Urbana, Illinois and nieces and nephews. Those who preceded him in death were his parents; a step-father, Everett Maschino and both wives.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 at the Paton Township Cemetery with Pastor Rick Gates of Crossroads Church in Perry officiating.

The Brown Funeral Home of Jefferson assisted the family.
