JoAnn Moses

JoAnn Eileen (Sheer) Moses, daughter of Howard and Betty (Kinnick) Sheer, was born Dec. 4, 1957, in Jefferson. She grew up on a farm south of Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1976. 

In July of 1974, JoAnn sustained injuries in a car accident that left her wheelchair-bound.

During her senior year of high school on Dec. 14, 1975, JoAnn was united in marriage with Robert Moses. One son, Robert E. “Bobby” Moses, was born to this union. After they divorced, JoAnn and Bobby moved back to her parents’ farm and then to Bayard in 1987.

JoAnn was a dedicated mother and homemaker, and enjoyed embroidery, watching movies, going shopping, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks. She was a resident of Manor Care Nursing Home in West Des Moines.

JoAnne passed away Feb. 3 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

She was 62 years, 1 month and 30 days of age.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; nephew Mike Sheer; niece Morgan (Sheer) Maurath; and many aunts and uncles; and other relatives.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. Moses, of Perry; brothers Kelly Sheer (Linda) and Steve Sheer (Cheryl), both of Bayard; a niece, Karen Gott, of Carroll; a nephew, Jason (Elaine) Sheer, of Johnston; several cousins and many people she thought of as family at the Manor Care.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Highland Twp. Cemetery in Bayard, with the Rev. Karen Patrick officiating.

Honorary bearers include Gentry Lowe, Jason Sheer, Dakota Sheer, Rachel Sheer, Karen Gotto, Mike Sheer (in memoriam) and Morgan Maurath (in memoriam).

In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, the family requests that you contribute a dish of food to a potluck at the Bayard Community Building following the graveside service.
