Jeffrey Etherton

Jeffrey Lynn Etherton, 56, of Jefferson died suddenly Wednesday, April 20, 2016.     

A Service of Remembrance was held Tuesday, April 26 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home with Rev. Sheldon Henderson of Central Christian Church, Jefferson, providing words of comfort. Casket bearers were Doug Brown, Tom Smith, Marty McDonald, Brad Ebersole, Darin Jacobs and Dennis Blum. The recorded music played was “People Back Home” by Florida Georgia Line, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill, “The Dance” by Garth Brooks, “Amazing Grace” by Faith Hill and “Dirt” by Florida Georgia Line. A Prayer Service was held Wednesday, April 27 at Metz Mortuary in York, Nebraska officiated by Glenn Dallmann. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, York.

Jeffrey Lynn Etherton was born May 29, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Lue “Junior” Etherton and Bonnie (Miller) Etherton. Jeff was raised in Guide Rock, Superior, and York, Neb.  He graduated from York High School in 1978 and joined the Army National Guard. In 1979, Jeff married Deborah Teeples in a ceremony in Jeff’s parents’ backyard.

All of his life, Jeff worked as a mechanic. In Nebraska, he worked for Sunflower Trucking, L & W, and Kohls. In 1989, he moved to Iowa and lived in Panora until 1995, then moved to Scranton and, in 2014, he moved to Grand Junction. Over the years, he worked at Little Auto Center in Panora, the Scranton Co-op, Tom Smith in Yale and Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction. Recently, Jeff was happily employed at McDonald’s Truck Washout in Scranton.  

Jeff and his family frequently went camping. On most camping trips grandson, Caden joined in the fun. The grandchildren were Jeff’s pride and joy. Jeff did lots of mechanical work on his children’s cars. He loved mechanics. Jeff was also a Nebraska Huskers football fan.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah; children: Sara Etherton of Grand Junction, Michael Ochsner of Lincoln, Neb. and Charles Ochsner of Maxwell, Neb.; father, “Junior” Lue Etherton of York, Neb.; brother, Michael Etherton of York; sister, Vickie (Ivan) Keller of York; five grandchildren: Caden Etherton, Caleb Ochsner, Elijah Ochsner, Jeremy Ochsner and Jamie Ochsner; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
