Jeanette Walker

Jeanette Walker of Lake City, formerly of Jefferson, died Friday, January 12, 2018.

 A Service of Remembrance was held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15 at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson, Iowa with Rev. Gordon Moen officiating. Words of comfort were provided by Aaron Walker of Cedar, Iowa. Readers were Dani Paup, Psalm 103 and Cliff Said, John 14:1-7. The organist was Donna Carhill. Congregational hymns sung were “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” “What A Wonderful Name” by Hillsong was also played. There was then a private interment was at Dawson Township Cemetery in Paton, Iowa.

Jeanette Deann Walker, 83, went to be with her dear Lord on January 12, 2018 after a battle with dementia. She was born in Greene County to Howard and Vera Conant and grew up south of Jefferson, the oldest of three siblings. After graduation from Jefferson High School in 1951, she married Allen Henning, and in 1964 she married Dale Walker.

She worked as an administrative assistant at the Greene County court house and the Richardson Law Firm  in earlier years and later at the Greene County Farm Bureau Office until she retired. She enjoyed meeting and serving so many great people in Greene County.

Jeanette was a very faithful and active church member in several churches over the years, the latest being the First Presbyterian Church. She has been a pianist, Sunday school teacher and deacon among many other volunteer roles in church. She also volunteered with Greene County Medical Center, Meals on Wheels and Master Gardeners.

She loved gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and walking. A major part of her life was spent in helping others. Anyone who met her knew that she would do anything to help. Her faith was extremely important to her and she passed it on to her family and shared it with all. She was an incredible mom, grandma and great-grandma to all her family. She would light up the room with her bright smile, great love, enthusiasm and joy! The value

She is survived by her children: Aaron (Melissa) Walker of Cedar, Iowa, Rod Walker of Boone, Iowa, Gary (Linda) Walker of Calif., Lesa (Hershel) Gay of Sparks, Nev., Rhonda (Jon) Clark of Rockwell City, Iowa, Connie (Brian) Gueswel of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Jodi (Chad) Paup of Creston, Iowa; brothers, Roger Conant of Jefferson and Jerry Conant of Panora; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
