Jeane Burk

Jeane Burk, age 85 years, 11 months passed away peacefully

on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Greene Co. Medical Center Long Term.  

Jeane was born to Thomas and Esther (Glines) Langford on  March 13, 1933 in Jefferson, Iowa.  She graduated from Jefferson High School in the Class of 1951.  Jeane was united in marriage to John Burk of Rippey, Iowa on July 24, 1952.  To this union, three daughters were born.  

She attended Broadlawn’s School of Nursing and became a R.N. During Jeane’s nursing career she worked at the Greene County Medical Center and also taught nursing students at Boone  Community College.  She ended her career at the Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at Mary Greeley Hospital.  

Jeane was a member of The Dwelling Place Church in Jefferson and was involved in many community activities.  Some of these included Greene County Historical Museum, The Action Resource Center, Thomas Jefferson Gardens and Meals on Wheels.

She was also active in Questers and Garden Club.   She will be remembered as an extraordinarily talented woman.  There wasn’t a recipe she couldn’t conquer or a room she couldn’t  beautify. John and Jeane hosted many family members and friends in their home throughout the years.  In her later years, she enjoyed reading, puzzles and playing with her great grandchildren.  

She will be remembered and missed by her children, Julie (Tom) Yepsen, Jefferson,  Jan (Phil) Siglin, Jefferson and Jill (Ty) Spatz,  Hastings, NE.   Grandchildren would include  Jared (Tasha) Yepsen,   Norwalk, IA and  Laura (Matthew) Krohne, Liberty, MO,  Dennis Healy, Jefferson and Michael (Angie) Healy, Jefferson; great grandchildren, Braxton and Keaton Yepsen, Briggs and Elin Krohne, Haddie Healy. 

She is survived by one sister, Katy (Harrie) Buswell, Cloverport, KY, sister-in-law, Trudy Langford, Winterset, IA,  sister-in-law, Dorothy Sheckler, Bonita Springs, FLA, brother-in-law, Duane (Pat ) Burk, Clive, IA and many nieces and nephews.  

Jeane was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Jack, Verl, Dale, Don, Tom and Joe, and hers sisters:  Ruth, Betty, Bonnie and Marjorie.

A celebration of life service will be held this summer to honor Jeane’s life.  Memorials may be made to Greene County Historical Society or Jefferson Public Library.
